Rapist posed as policeman

Police have revealed the rapist who attacked a Papakura woman in her flat on Thursday posed as a plain clothes detective to gain access to her home.
The man said he was making door to door inquiries when he forced his way in and viciously raped the woman, who lived alone.
The offender was armed with a hand gun and threatened the victim numerous times that he would kill her if she called police.
Detective Senior Sergeant Neil Grimstone says it was a disgusting and despicable incident.
"The warning there is ask for that identification prior to opening the door and ensure you are happy with the police officers credentials," he says.
Grimstone says there are two forms of genuine police identification - a detective's badge, and an identification card carried by all officers.
The attack occurred around midday at the Duke Street address. The entrance to the woman's flat is clearly visible from the road.
A neighbour living two doors down from the victim came home at the time the two and a half hour attack was taking place but noticed nothing suspicious.
The offender is described as a Maori or Polynesian man in his early to mid-30s.
Police are encouraging anyone with information to call their toll-free hotline 0800 DUKE ST or 0800-385 378.

Rapist posed as plain-clothes cop

Police are warning people to ask officers for official identification before allowing them into their homes, after the vicious rape of a South Auckland woman on Thursday.
The man claimed he was a police officer and convinced the 41-year-old woman to let him into her Papakura Street home about midday on Thursday, where he stripped her and repeatedly sexually violated her.
Officer in charge of the investigation Detective Senior Sergeant Neil Grimstone today revealed the man, dressed in a suit, posed as a police officer telling the woman he was there "conducting routine enquiries".
He asked the woman to open the door and once inside he produced a "dark handgun" and threatened the woman with it, he said.
Mr Grimstone said the man used the handgun to continuously threaten her throughout the 2-½ hour sexual attack.
"Clearly this is an extremely sinister twist in this enquiry."
The man did not show the woman any identification, he said.
Mr Grimstone said the obvious warning to the public was that all police officers, when going door-to-door, carried official identification.
"They are practised at showing that identification at all times."
Mr Grimstone said people should ask for that identification prior to opening the door and to be sure they were happy with the police officer's credentials.
A phoneline number (0800 385 378) which had been set-up had taken many calls, he said, and was being manned around the clock.
While considerable information had been received police were evaluating it, which took time, he said.
Mr Grimstone said he had never heard of a similar crime and said it was a "substantial mystery".
Mr Grimstone said all police had official identification and detectives often had a gold badge as well.
People who were not comfortable with either the person or identification shown, should not open the door, he said.
"You can ring the communications centre and they will have a log of that police officer going about those particular enquiries and they should be able to confirm whether that police officer was legitimate or not."
Mr Grimstone said he would not speculate whether the man may have a connection to the police or whether he had been watching the house.
The woman was interviewed by the police again today and was continuing to help police, he said.
The offender was described as being dressed in business clothes - a dark suit, white collared shirt, a grey or blue tie and black dress shoes.
He was described as a male Maori or Polynesian in his early to mid 30s, about 185cm tall, clean shaven with short dark hair and of a strong, athletic build.
Uniformed officers were today going door-to-door in a bid to gain more information about the offender.
Neighbour Andrew Robertson, who has a clear view of the woman's door, said he wished he had seen the attacker but he had closed his curtains because of the foul weather.
"I feel terrible," he said. "It is the most terrible thing I have heard of."
Ninety-year-old Evelyn Watson said she was out when the attack happened and knew nothing of it till police called in the morning.
Ms Watson said she was shocked that the attack could have happened with so many people close by.
"I don't feel safe now, I live on my own."
Another couple said they were "astonished".
Speaking from behind a locked screened door, the woman said she was not concerned for her safety.
"If I was on my own it would be different," she said.
"A lot of people live on their own around here."

Rapist posed as policeman
It has been revealed the man who raped a woman in her own home this week was posing as an undercover policeman. Detectives have just released further details of the attack on the 41-year-old in Duke Street, Papakura.
They say the man gained his victim's confidence by claiming he was carrying out routine checks of the neighbourhood. He did not produce any ID, but the woman unlocked her door because he seemed very approachable. He then burst in, brandishing a gun, which he threatened her with throughout the three-hour ordeal.
Detective Senior Sergeant Neil Grimstone says "it is a very disgusting and despicable attack on a female in her own home, in broad daylight and this man must be caught."
Mr Grimstone says women in the area need to be cautious when answering the door to strangers.
The man is described as Maori or Polynesian, aged early to mid-30s and approximately 6.1m tall. He is clean shaven with short dark hair and wearing a dark grey or black suit with a white collared shirt, a grey or blue tie and black dress shoes.
The victim of the vicious rape is helping police with their inquires. Mr Grimstone says despite her condition, she is helping them with the investigation. She is also receiving support from police professional services.
Anyone who has information or who was in the area at midday on Thursday is asked to call 0800 DUKE ST (0800 3853 78).

Lunchtime rape stuns woman's neighbours
by Kim Ruscoe
Police are hunting a suit-wearing rapist after a woman was brutally attacked in her home in a smart Auckland suburb in broad daylight.
Detective Senior Sergeant Neil Grimstone said the woman, 41, was subjected to a prolonged and "despicable" sexual attack after being tricked into opening the front door of her Papakura home for a well dressed stranger.
"She was stripped naked and sexually violated many times," he said.
"The man was armed and he threatened the woman's life, saying he would kill her if she went to the police."
It was not yet known what kind of weapon was used in the attack, which happened about midday on Thursday, Mr Grimstone said.
"She has some physical injuries which have been treated. But clearly after such a horrific attack, to say she was mentally fragile was an understatement."
Mr Grimstone warned others in the area to lock up and be extra vigilant in answering their doors.
"It's a very disgusting and despicable attack on a female in her own home, in broad daylight, and this man must be caught."
Mr Grimstone said the attacker was unusual, in that he was well-dressed. "He could be a businessman."
The attacker is described as Maori or Polynesian, in his mid 30s, about 1.86m (6ft 1) and of strong, athletic build. He was clean shaven, had short, dark hair and was wearing a dark grey or black suit, a white collared shirt, a grey or blue tie and black dress shoes.
